Cop this Book: "Keep Laughing" by Devon Blood

At the age of 26, Devon Blood's livelihood depended on having full control of his body - his coordination and skilled movements had lead him to success as a skateboarder, artist and tattooer. In 2006, Blood became the victim of a gunshot wound to the head that nearly cost him his life. As a result of the trauma, he lost precise muscle control of his right side of his body. The right-handed tattooer realized he would no longer be able to skate or bike again, but was committed to his art. "Keep Laughing" tells Blood's story of overcoming the odds as he trained himself to paint, draw and tattoo with his left hand how he once used his right. His words are accompanied by personal photography documenting his life and recovery, as well as his own artwork before, during and after his rehabilitation. "Keep Laughing" is definitely an inspiring story for artists and dreamers everywhere. Get a copy of Bloods' "Keep Laughing" here and get a closer look at the book after the jump!

David LaChapelle "Negative Currency" and "Recollections in America" Exhibition at Prism Gallery

Renowned photographer David LaChapelle is showing two series of works, "Negative Currency" and "Recollections in America" which opened last night at LA's Prism Gallery. In the series "Negative Currency", LaChapelle revives a developing process with which he had previously experimented in 1990. Using the enlarger in a darkroom, LaChapelle used dollar bills in the place of a negative, resulting in a pink print that simultaneously revealed both sides of the currency. "Recollections in America"series is created by manipulating old photographs from 1970's by placing objects such as alcohol, drugs, guns etc. that don't belong in the original photos resulting in "neo-collage". Check out the images after the jump.

"Supermen - An Exhibition of Heroes" at Eleven Fine Art

Ben Turnbull created this series of collages as a tribute to the real life heroes, the firemen and policemen, that put their lives on the line for civilians each and everyday. Turnbull creates the images using vintage comic book heroes (Captain America, Spider-man, Batman, Hulk and others) and incorporates a sense of patriotism with his usage of reds, whites and blues in each piece. Turnbull uses the likenesses of fictional heroes to create his portraits of servicemen to imply that real superheroes are hidden amongst us. He adds, "Superman didn’t fly down to save the falling buildings, there was no Caped Crusader ready to do battle with the arch-enemy and Spidey didn’t spin his web. Without the need of a phone-booth or a revolving door, these true patriots donned their iconic costumes and sacrificed life and limb for what they believed in." Turnbull's real life hero collages are part of the "Supermen - An Exhibition of Heroes" show taking place at the Eleven Fine Art gallery in London from now to October 22. Get a preview of the show after the jump!
