Thus far, 2011 has been a throwback year - denim jackets and funky prints came back into style, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returned to professional wrestling, Nickelodeon brought back their classic shows in their "The '90s Are All That" block and MTV2 started airing reruns of Martin in their "Mornings with Martin" weekday lineup. Damn Gina, 2011 is starting to look a whole lot like 1993. You want more nostalgia? DJ Rashida's Honey Anniversary Mix will fit the bill. Mixed in 2008, Rashida's mix has tracks from old school favorites such as Digital Underground, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Wreckx-N-Effect, Soul II Soul, MC Lyte and more. February 27, 2010 was a sad day for music because it was the day Japanese hip hop producer/DJ Nujabes died. Nujabes collaborated with Japanese acts such as Shing02 and Uyama Hiroto as well as American underground hip hop artists Substantial, Apani B, CL Smooth, CYNE and others. Nujabes blended hip hop beats with jazz vibes and paired them with articulate hip hop lyricism at its best. The Nujabes Documentary: An Eternal Soul is a tribute to the life of Seba Jun (Nujabes' real name) and chronicles his contributions to the world of music. Before he was an OTW Advocate, French filmmaker/photographer Dimitri Coste was (and still is) a Vans sneakerhead. In 2006, Coste was profiled in our "Stories of the Sole" book and opened up about why he started his collection of footwear. "Since 1966, Vans has simply made great shoes. As a kid growing up in France in the early '80s, I craved those shoes, the same shoes I was seeing BMX riders and skaters wearing in the magazines," he confessed. Over the past two decades, sneaker collecting has evolved into its own culture and with the advancements in technology, sneakerheads across the globe are able to connect via forums and social media. Do you have a sick collection of kicks and are passionate about the shoe game? Feel free to contact me via our Facebook or Twitter for your chance to be profiled on the Vans OTW site.Labels: collector, dimitri coste, otw, sneaker

Max Fish is located on New York's Lower East Side and has become home to the East Coast's creative community. Owner Ulli Rimkus opened the art gallery-turned-bar in 1989 and doesn't believe in hiring bartenders, she prefers galssblowers, silk-screeners, rappers and skateboarders. January 31st was supposed to be the location's final day of operation but to the delight of Ludlow Street patrons, Fish's lease was extended for an additional year. Read Max Fish's full profile on the New Yorker's website.
