Via SNAV: The Ghost in the Machine

Production quality can make the difference between a hit and a b-side in today's world of music. Akai has supplied generations of studio heads with synthesizers, drum machines and other music tools to ensure optimal track creation. Our boy SNAV got a behind the scenes tour of their headquarters, check out his update after the jump!
I had a chance to go to one of my favorite brand's headquarters. Well they are a couple of brands. This brand is such a big part of the hip hop culture. If this brand wasn’t around in the late '80s till the present a lot of our favorite hip hop songs wouldn't have been created. I know you're like okay where did he go? I had a chance to go to AKAI.
Other companies in the building are Numark, Aleses and Ion. Talk about equipment. I got a chance to see some of the early production equipment. They had both of the pieces that all the great producers made beats on to this day like Pete Rock, Prince Paul, Dr Dre & Dj Premier. The Mpc 60 which is the first Mpc drum machine and then S900 which is one of the early samplers used in hip hop. There were so many cool gadgets just laying around it was like I was a kid walking around a big candy store.
I checked out where all the concepts get designed this part was top secret so I only got a shot of all the minds at work.
Next was one of the craziest rooms I ever saw. This room was tech support. To me it was a producer library. They had every machine a producer would ever want. I saw people get a call start working on the machine and answer the question. I thought customer service was dead until I saw this room.
I saw my favorite drum Machine from the first one they built to the last one. Which is the MPC 5000.
It was one of the coolest trips I ever been on. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
