Another OTW Advocate Flashback: Vans x Eric Elms Projects from the Past

Before he was an OTW Advocate, graphic designer Eric Elms had worked with Vans on three separate occasions producing a his own footwear silhouette, a logo and t-shirts. His upcoming Vans OTW collaboration is slated for a late Summer 2011 drop. What will it look like? Take a look at some of his past collaborations with Vans to get a feel of his design style.
Vans x Eric Elms - Elms
In Summer 2009, Eric teamed up with the Vans design team to create his own silhouette, the Elms. The mid-top took cues from the Authentic and Half Cab. Elms adorned the uppers with suede and canvas, upgraded footbed to a Syndicate PU insole and kept our classic waffle outsole. In addition to the sneaker three-pack, Elms worked with our apparel team to produce two shirts displaying his illustrations.
 Vans "Off The Wall" Competition
In celebration of the "Off The Wall" book release, Vans hosted a friendly competition for the best "Off The Wall" logo. Participants included various artists including Taka Hayashi, Parra, Steve Caballero, Dennis McNett, Geoff Rowley, Michael Sieben and OTW's own Eric Elms. Elms' entry was the custom art installation pictured above.

OTW Art Gallery - OTW Gallery Elms T-Shirt
Our apparel team enjoyed Eric's logo so much that they put it on a shirt as part of the OTW Art Gallery tees in Fall 2010.  Eric had this to say about his logo:
"When I look back on my life, there are very few things that are consistent throughout. Vans is one of those things. Other styles always came in and out of my life, but that one constant always brought me back to Classic Vans. If I kept all those beat-up pairs, it would probably give me a pretty good timeline of what trouble I was getting into at that point."
