Why So Serious?

The Coen brothers have been a Hollywood institution from quite some time. The brothers have a gift of telling stories that possess multiple layers. As their film nears the end, a clashing and closure of several story plots and personalities all seem to collide into one place. Of course the brothers are known for their signature style of films through their notable works such as No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski, and Fargo.

The Coen Brothers' most recent effort, A Serious Man provides the lush environment of 1960s small town America. The story is dark and humorous. Loosely based around the famous Bible story of the Book of Job, the film takes a hard look into the life of a Jewish family and their surrounding community. It is more of a story of staying true to ones character, no matter how absurd the circumstances; it also allows the viewer to live and understand the social complexities of what it felt like to be Jewish in a small town.
