Jacques Tati's "Play Time"
In the spirit of modernism of which OTW embraces, I came across this amazing film directed by French filmmaker Jacques Tati. The film is entitled "Play Time" and is filmed entirely on a custom built studio set. Tati was consumed with the idea of modernism and the constraints that it allowed and disallowed in a civilized society. Tati was particularly interested in the ideas of conformity, he poked fun at the everyday workings of the business machinery. The interesting thing of course is that "Play Time" took a good four years to produce and although it was hailed critically it didn't make money in the box office. A strange film but in many ways absolutely intriguing.
